For those who don't really know me I am Kirilynn Gardner, 28 years old married mother of two. I work at this fantastic place called Mary Hare a secondary school for profoundly and severely deaf young people aged from 11 - 19 years old. I have worked here for nearly eight years and it is a huge part of my life.

I set up a youth club in my early years and it has gone from strength to strength, it is now a place for the young people to relax and be something they are proud of. I run it like a business I am the head chef and organiser I have large hard working team consisting of the young people at the school. They all apply for a job, go for an interview, attend training and develop a working life with full benefits and wages. This provides a great experience of life skills valuable to all the young people at the school. My team is made up of sixth form reps, managers, assistant managers, waiters/waitresses and security staff all with individual’s roles running the youth club like an American Diner with a full menu. The youth club is run making a small profit which goes back to the young people and into the youth club in forms of their wages and prizes for events that we have to offer.

But it is now coming to an end of an era, the 6th formers from the school were there from almost the start  of the youth club (well a good 7 years!) and have decided to do something. As it is there last few months at the school they want to give something back to something they hold close to their hearts.

So the idea is for one last fundraising attempt to raise money for a sign for the youth club that will be there for many years to come!

We are going to walk across 10 bridges of London on the 20th and 21st March 2010.

This school is a huge part of my life and means so much to me and the young people I look after - to watch them grow as individuals and make something of their lives is an extraordinarily privileged thing to be a part of. If I can just help them achieve this in the way of my work in the youth club to give them the confidence to believe in themselves to prepare for the hearing world around them and grow as the talented individuals that they are then sponsoring me will help keep their youth club and dreams going! - Many thanks for your time Kirilynn
