Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I have now successfully reached Day 24 of my 70-day hike from Perth to Albany (Western Australia) and reached Collie! It's certainly been as challenging as expected, if not more so as I've been lost, found, wet, cold, hot, lonely, exhausted and really pleased with myself all in a very short space of time! Thank you to everyone who has so kindly donated and/ or supported my fundraising! Everyone's kind and encouraging messages have made me feel so motivated to keep going even after 4 days and nights completely on my own! The more I raise the more I'm spurred on to the end and I honestly don't think I would have made it this far without the support of everyone both here and at home. If you would like to see photos of the adventure so far please visit my facebook page (my profile picture is Tilly, my grey horse, invite me to be your friend & you can see the photos...)I'm taking on this challenge in memory of my horse Tilly who sadly died last September. I hope to have finished walking by the anniversary of her passing on the 18th September so I'll update this page again once I've successfully made it to Albany, just under 1,000km later!
I'm raising money for The Brooke Hospital for Animals, a charity known as 'the animal charity that helps people too'. They aim to work towards healthy working animals for the world's poorest communities. They have a network of vet teams, field clinics and community animal health workers to provide care and treatment for sick or injured animals but they also work to prevent future suffering. They provide employment for local people who speak the dialect and educate owners and communities in animal care. These animals toil in some of the world's toughest environments carrying building materials, people, goods and crops, so their poor owners can earn a living. The work of the Brooke allows the animals to live longer, healthier lives thereby supporting the families that depend on them for survival much longer. You can visit their website www.TheBrooke.org to find out about all the good work they do.
A donation of £3 a month will buy medicine for a Brooke Clinic to provide treatment to relieve painful joints. Sponsorship of just £10 would provide medicine for just over 3 months.
A donation of £18 a month will ensure a donkey will receive all the fodder, vitamins and minerals he needs for a whole month.
A donation of £48 could pay for a training session, where Brooke teams help show communities how to improve the health of their animals for the long term enhancing their chances to earn a living.
For every £150 I can raise, the Brooke can provide a training and start up kit for a community animal health worker to work with local communities to improve their animal welfare.
The Brooke is a charity very close to my heart and I would love to raise as much money as I possibly can for them.
