Action for Children in Conflict (AfCiC) works to assist and transform the lives of children affected by various forms of conflict or crisis be it war, extreme poverty, hunger, illness, persecution, or neglect. Our projects focus on helping some of the most disadvantaged, disenfranchised and socially excluded children and young people in Africa. The children we work with come from backgrounds of abject poverty, family breakdown and abuse – both verbal and physical. They are in conflict with the law, living and working in the streets and have little or no access to formal education. Many resort to substance abuse as a means of escaping the cold and hunger which pervade their daily lives. We believe that these children and young people have the capacity to change their own lives for the better, and it is our role to nurture this process. AfCiC works alongside the children and young people, helping to transform them into responsible individuals and productive members of their community, and empowering them to make positive decisions about their futures.

Action Village India has long-term relationships with six Gandhian organisations all working for non-violent change in rural India. For almost 20 years, it has supported programmes which enable disadvantaged communities to help themselves. The AV Foundation is an educational charity working with poor rural schools in Africa, Asia and Central America, with plans to expand its target areas in these three continents. The AV Foundation was established by Africa Asia Venture ("AV"), the volunteering organisation, and provides bursaries to deserving and needy children who would otherwise be unable to attend school as well as providing funds for the improvement of school facilities. Bombolulu School of Promise is a primary school in the slums of Mombasa. It provides education for children who are not able to go to the government schools because of financial hardship. CAROM is dedicated to helping disadvantaged children in Romania: in particular, we support the Atelier Sacelean - a women’s self-help project that provides remedial education, play activities, and practical assistance with clothing etc to disadvantaged children and their families in the area of Sacele, in Transilvania. At the moment they have around 50 children on their books, but could do more if they had enough support. We are totally run by volunteers, and take no salary or expenses ourselves.
