My mother Eileen, born into a large Irish Catholic family, is blessed with having one brother and four sisters. They’re all close but it’s fair to say that a special bond exists between Aunty Penny and my mum. They’ve spent the last few summers together in Ireland, singing the songs and enjoying the craic.
Towards the end of last year my Aunty Penny was diagnosed as having cancer. As you read this, she’s undergoing a course of chemotherapy treatment to try to reduce the size of the tumour.
We’re praying every day that the chemo works and the operation to remove the tumour will be successful. She says the prayers are helping. Still, I feel pretty useless.
I know I’m not alone in being touched by cancer. But when you’re in this position you really feel you ought to be doing something.
So that’s why — in addition to making Viva the best North West PR consultancy by a country mile — I have been inspired to make our 2008 mission to raise money for Genesis, the Manchester-based breast cancer prevention charity.
On Sunday March 16 Team Viva will take part in a Three Peaks (Bolton style) Challenge. We’ll be tackling the mighty Great Hill, Winter Hill and Rivington Pike in one mad ramble. It’s about 15 miles of rugged moorland and, on a good day, God will give you great views of the Reebok.
Our aim is to raise at least four figures for Genesis but, of course, we need sponsors.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: The Genesis Appeal Company Ltd will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
So please sponsor me now!
Many thanks for your support.
